Accenture Data Analytics Virtual Experience
I recently participated in the Accenture Virtual Experience program hosted by Forage, where I assumed the role of a data analyst. My primary task was to assist "Social Buzz," a hypothetical social media company with over 500 million monthly active users, in deriving meaningful insights from their extensive data.
Understanding the Business Context
Prior to data analysis, I familiarised myself with Social Buzz's business model. As a platform focusing on user anonymity and content engagement, Social Buzz generates a substantial amount of unstructured data daily. The objective was to analyse their top 5 content categories by popularity to provide actionable insights for guiding their growth strategy.
Data Cleaning and Preparation
The initial phase involved meticulous data cleaning using Excel. This process encompassed:
1. Removing missing values
2. Standardising data types
3. Eliminating irrelevant columns
I utilised the VLOOKUP function to merge different tables.
Trend Identification and Analysis
With a clean dataset at hand, I used Pivot Tables to identify trends and determine the top 5 content categories. This step was important in uncovering the types of content that resonated most with users.
Data Visualisation
To enhance the interpretability of the findings, I created a series of visualisations such as:
1. A pie chart illustrating the distribution of content categories
2. A line graph tracking post volumes over time
Finally, I compiled everything into a dashboard that summarised the insights in a clear and engaging way. This storytelling aspect helped convey how Social Buzz could leverage their data for future growth and improve their content strategy.
Conclusion
This experience has improved my proficiency in data cleaning, analysis, and visualisation techniques. It underscored the importance of understanding a business's needs and how effective data analysis can drive strategic decision-making. I look forward to applying these competencies to real-world challenges and continuing to develop my expertise!
